Discover Design Over Dinner (DDOD)
March 28, 2019
The Headmaster’s House
6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Located in Austin’s Castle Hill neighborhood
The Headmaster’s House is a stunning renovation and restoration of an original nineteenth-century limestone structure (1871), with an unusual provenance and architectural history. Located on a hill overlooking the heart of Austin, it first served as the Texas Military Institute’s house for its headmaster. Then—in the late-twentieth century—it was owned, occupied, and added onto by Robert Barnstone, a prominent Austin developer. The current owners recently completed a full-house restoration and renovation with Austin-based Jobe Corral Architects. Today the house is a fluid and graceful mix of architectural vernaculars spanning the nineteenth through twenty-first centuries.
For a rare moment in early Spring, this house will be open to the public! On March 28, the Austin Foundation for Architecture will host a Discover Design Over Dinner event at Headmaster’s. Attendees will enjoy dinner, hear remarks about the project and its significance from architects Camille Jobe and Ada Corral and from Preservation Austin’s Programs Director Lindsey Derrington, and have the opportunity to tour the home.
Advance tickets are required for this limited-capacity event. Ticket sales will close at noon on the day of the event or when they sell out. The Headmaster’s House is located in Austin’s Castle Hill neighborhood; exact street address to be provided to ticket holders by email. All proceeds will benefit the Austin Foundation for Architecture; thank you for respecting our no refund policy.
